Clitocybe candida Bres. syn. Leucopaxillus candidus (Bres.) Singer Cap 8-20cm across, broadly convex to flat with the margin incurved, becoming shallowly and broadly funnel-shaped with the margin often wavy, arched, and sometimes grooved at the edge; whitish or pale cream, becoming slightly sordid on the disc in older specimens; dull, dry, with very finely matted hairs. Gills decurrent to short decurrent, crowded, narrow; yellowish; separable from the cap. Stem 40-90 x 15-35mm, sometimes enlarged and curved at the base; white to pale buff; finely matted hairs at the top, becoming more scurfy and hairy below. Flesh thin, but thicker on the disc; whitish. Odor mildly mealy. Taste mild. Spores ellipsoid, smooth, weakly amyloid, 6-8.5 x 3-4.5ì. Deposit white. No pleurocystidia. Habitat in groups or tufts, sometimes forming rings, in mixed hardwood or coniferous forests. Sometimes abundant. Found in northern North America and New Mexico. Season August-November. Not edible.
